This morning, your first task is to answer these questions related to the book ‘Grace the Pirate’. You will find this book by following this web link:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/digital_books/1270.html

If you are unable to access the site, then please do find attached the pages required.

Read pages 21-33 (Chapter 4)

  2. Find the word that describes how Grace climbed the palm tree? P.22
  3. What do you think coconut fibre is? P.23
  4. What do you think the phrase ‘The sun was hanging low over the sea’ means? P.24
  5. Why do you think Grace was stiff and sore? P.24
  6. Find and copy the phrase that tells you Grace is scared and worried. P.25
  7. What is the term called for using ‘…’? p.26. Extra point if you know what it is used for.

  10. Do you predict that Grace will stay on the island for 25 years? Explain your reason. P.33
  11. What survival skill would you teach Grace to use whilst she is stranded on the desert island?

For English, you need to complete pages 10 and 11 of your CGP book then write a diary entry about everything Grace has done and achieved throughout Chapter 4. Remember not everything is done on one day. See the checklist attached to see if you have included the important parts within a diary.

After break, for Maths, you need to complete pages 10 and 11 of your CGP book. Once finished find the attached maths sheet. Do not print this out. You can simply answer these onto a spare piece of paper.

For topic today you’re continuing your two-day project. It’s time to get to work for the pirate crew - the Captain wants you to use your Scientific enquiry results to create and build a pirate ship that doesn’t sink! Make sure to use materials that float and consider how the shape and surface area of the boat impacts its buoyancy. Don’t forget to test out your pirate ship with Lego figures or other small toys. Can you get your ship to hold a whole crew? Remember to send us photos of your pirate ship and tell us how many pirates it could hold without sinking. If you have finished constructing your pirate ship, then don’t forget to test it and if for some reason it was not a success then go back to the drawing board! Remember to use your scientific enquiry from Tuesday to help you with this.

If all of the above is complete then please choose an activity from the Year 4 HELP information on the Year 4 front page. The activity needs to be from the Topic section.

After topic you can spend thirty minutes on mathsshed.com. There has been a new activity set and you will have until Friday to complete this task. Do remember the teachers can see who is and who isn’t completing these!

If you do have time after this fun packed day, then do take a look at Mr Higgins’s daily challenge and see if you can get creative! We have loved seeing your videos of these.

Please do email us a photo of your day’s work. It was great to hear from some on you yesterday Some children even received dojo points for their great work and effort!

All answers to CGP, guided reading and Maths will be displayed before 3pm on the Year 4 blog.
