TUDOR NEWSLETTER Issue 3 6th October 2017

In which we discuss planning for the future, Halloween, arriving at school in the mornings... and Christmas!?!?

Friday 6th October 2017

Dear Parents/ Carers,

The school has experienced a number of changes in the recent past and it now appears we may now be ready to alter our ‘kerb appeal’ too!

The Tudor Hall- making steps forward and ‘planning for disruption’...

As mentioned on the website earlier this week (always check for web updates as well as school blogs!), we are starting to see some real progress in being able to provide a brand new school hall for the children. This has been a project that has been quite hard to ‘move forward’ but with close support from the governing board of the school, there is a strong likelihood that children could be able to enjoy a brand new hall at some point in early 2018. The final arrangements are being made to the planning and we are hoping to ‘break ground’ in late October.

Please be assured that the school will plan alongside the construction company very carefully to ensure that disruption is minimised but, however, there are a number of issues that we will not be able to avoid. For example, we will NOT have a hall at all from early/mid December until the completion of the works...

‘But what about Christmas?’

Early Years (Nursery and Reception) will be offering something different (details to be released soon) and Key stage 1 plan to join Key Stage 2 for the ‘Open Air Singing Spectacular’ that proved successful last year. Even though we are limited with our options, we promise that children will still able to enjoy this special time of the year!

Tudor Family Worker- Supporting all families in the community

Mrs Donley is very excited about her ‘new’ position as non-class based INCo (Inclusion Coordinator) at Tudor Primary. This increases the school’s capacity to support children and families when in (and out) of school. Another key person is Chrissy Philips- she is our school Family Support Worker and we really want to ensure that you are able to benefit from her valuable support. We have arranged for drop in sessions to occur each month that will take place in the school library. If you would like to access this opportunity, do come along on Wednesday 18 October at 3pm- there will even be tea and scones to tempt you in! Further dates will be issued for November and December.

Keep an eye on the website and our school newsletters for how our family support worker (and Mrs Donley) can support you. The attached leaflet highlights what Chrissy can do for you!

Setting the right example...

Tudor is a non smoking site and we request that parents also refrain from ‘vaping’. Thank you for your support with this.

The Tudor Harvest Festival

As part of Tudor School’s Harvest Festival celebrations this year, we have once again chosen ‘DENS’ as our chosen charity who help local homeless people in Hemel Hempstead.  Please could you help by donating one non-perishable item (food or toiletries) so that we can support this worthy cause?  Items can brought into your child’s class and will be delivered to DENS on Friday 13th October. Thanks, for your kind and generous support!

Making every minute count...

The Tudor team is keen to utilise every minute that the children have in school and this is why we are keen for the children to be in class from 8.45 each morning. Even though school starts at 8.55am, the children are able to come into the classrooms early for learning activities- there may even be additional rewards for the children once inside. The rewards for the year 2 reading drive have certainly excited the children and we hope that the current year 2 parents are able to work alongside the school as closely as those in year 2 did last year. The outcomes (improved progress as well as a fun start to the day!) were amazing for the children and this was the result of fantastic teamwork from all.

‘It’s only attendance that is stopping you being OUTSTANDING for behaviour’

As Ofsted noted, attendance of children at Tudor is not at a level that we should expect. A ‘basic target’ of 97%+ is achievable and I know we can get there. Please ensure you have high expectations for your children’s attendance. The rates of attendance last week were:

 R: 95.0%       Y: 96.9%         1O: 93.7%%              1P: 95.0%      2Q: 98.0%                 2R:97.6%

3S: 91.7%       3T: 94.0%       4U: 95.6%                  4V: 94.3%      5W: 92.0%                 5X: 94.5%

6Y: 97.4%      6Z:94.8%        Total: 95.0%            Target= 97%+ Let’s try and reach this figure!
