Newsletter 10

Thursday 29th February

We are now in the second half of the school year! Time really is flying at Tudor and that can only mean one thing- we are all having lots of fun. Excitement levels are off the scale in year 1 in which both classes have been asked to care for a number of (hatching) chicks. This experience is part of our thematic curriculum and the children (and staff team!) are eager to see what is happening each day.

Our key aim will always be to ensure that the children are safe and happy in school. Saying that, it is highly evident that children are most content at school when they feel they are being successful. Tudor has a strong reputation for the academic outcomes it achieves- both in respect of progress as well as overall results. I am delighted to share, therefore, that some of the recent examples of work that have been brought to my room have been of the highest standard. From our youngest learners to our most experienced Tudorites, the work has been superb.

What truly impresses me is when the children become so naturally animated when they talk about what they have been learning. Whether the children are writing their first sentences or creating an online media presentation about wildlife, the understanding that they are sharing is wonderful. A HUGE well done to the teaching team who inspire your children and help them achieve their potential. EVERY DAY and EVERY LESSON makes a difference…

Continuing to put our community FIRST

The feedback we received in our county review was exceptional. Considering that our advisor is highly experienced and works with numerous schools, her comments regarding our extra opportunities was so pleasing. From subsidised costs for EVERY opportunity provided (club/ activity/ trip/etc!) to the free additional learning and tutoring provision that benefit so many of our children (and families), the commitment to ensure that EVERY child can be involved in wider experiences at Tudor truly sets us apart from other schools. Simply put, we do NOT look to use additional offers or school experiences as a method to build school funds. Part of this key commitment is identifying which activities and experiences to provide. As you will be already aware, costs of coach transport have increased massively and the school has a duty to consider the potential impact on ALL parents. We believe that more children at Tudor enjoy a wider experience of school related opportunities… in more ways too. We really are a school of OPPORTUNITY. So, what can we do to ensure we remain so…

We are considering an approach in the future where we share a ‘calendar’ of activities for certain year groups enabling parents to spread the (subsidised!) payments over 10 months. If you have any other views on such an approach, please do come and speak to us. The financial pressures on schools are more extreme than ever but we should remain determined to keep giving the children of Tudor the best- to help inspire, to build aspiration… and to offer them something TRULY special!

Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Assistant Head for Inclusion:

We have been successful in our bid to receive support from our local Mental Health Support Team (MHST). This means that we will have a trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner, Anne Weedon, in school every Monday. Anne will be able to provide support and training to staff and parents/carers, as well as group interventions for children with mild to moderate mental health needs, helping them to build resilience and develop positive coping strategies. To meet Anne and find out more about the support she may be able to provide you and/or your child, please come to our next 'Tudor Coffee Morning' on Monday 18th March at 9am.

The Hangout- INCLUDING ‘THE HANGOUT IN THE HOLIDAY!’

Has your child experienced the Hangout after school provision yet? It gets great feedback and we continue to be impressed with what the children experience. More information at:

https://www.tudor.herts.sch.uk/the-hangout-after-school-care

We will also be offering 3 weeks of ‘The Hangout’ in the summer break. More information will be in your emails (very!) soon.

World Book Day- Thursday 7th March

As the letter that went out this week shared, the children will be taking part in a number of fun book- related activities to help mark World Book Day next Thursday. As well as coming to school in their pyjamas, the children are sure to enjoy what is in store. Tudor Primary is proud of our continued (and sustained) investment to reading. From our daily year 2 reading drive, investment in our super school library to Mrs Salter’s regular story times, it’s essentially ‘Book day, every day’ at Tudor!

Red Nose Day 2024- Friday 15th March

This Red Nose Day, let’s come together to raise some smiles – and some money – to help people through the toughest times of their lives.

To support this good cause, please come dressed in your Comic Relief t-shirts, or red tops/jumpers (to be worn with the rest of your normal Tudor uniform) for a suggested donation of £1 to the charity.  We are unable to sell red noses this year, but do feel free to wear other red accessories (including red hair if you wish!).

Nursery Applications are now OPEN

In our recent newsletters we shared the RECORD numbers of applications to our school for reception. Interest is also looking strong for our wonderful nursery provision. Follow the links on our website for information: https://www.tudor.herts.sch.uk/page/?title=Pupil+Admissions&pid=116

Applications close on Monday 11th March. Tudor is CLEARLY the place to be!

We would like to remind you all of the problems that can arise if children are allowed to use WhatsApp. Despite guidance stating that such social messaging should not be used by under 16s, we recognise that many children do have access to it. Tudor will always try to be pro-active in our support of the children in such areas but please do recognise the risks.

If you did not see what was said about YOUR school in the recent county inspection, do look at the previous newsletter on the website- it’s wonderful!

I shared in a primary headteacher meeting recently that is not unusual to have over 120 children for breakfast at Tudor- the response was disbelief! Tudor is a welcoming place to come to each day: we have an extremely talented teaching team, (equally!) awesome children… and now quite a few energetic chicks running around key stage 1! Let’s ALL keep being #TeamTudor!
