Today, Miss Grundy and Miss Sentance have seen some fantastic work! It's so lovely to hear about everything you're getting up to, how hard you're working and the fun you're having. Special mention today goes to Aaruthura (4V) for her beautiful acrostic Spring poem and to Joseph (4U) for his Scientific Enquiry and use of excel to present his results.

  1. What two things does the boat do during the storm? p.13 rolled and heaved
  2. Find and copy the two words that tell you the narrator doesn't remember a lot about the night of the storm. p.13 don't recall
  3. What does 'Look lively!' mean? p.14 Go or move quickly
  4. What is a mast? p.14 A tall post on a ship that holds the sail.
  5. Why did the young sailor have to climb the mast? Give two reasons. p.14 The sail needed to be cut free and untangled - The other sailors were too drunk or scared.
  6. How would you feel if you were at the top of the mast when the ship 'pitched and tossed in the towering seas'? p.14 Your opinions.
  7. What does Captain Cutthroat mean when he says 'taste my steel'? p.18 He'll hurt/cut them with his cutlass
  8. Find and copy a simile. p.18 'wriggling like an eel' and 'like a sack of herring tails'
  9. Choose three adjectives to describe Grace. Make sure to think carefully about the characteristics she has shown throughout the text. Your opinion. Miss Sentance's three adjectives were courageous, strong-willed and cunning.
  10. Why does Grace 'crawl up the sand'? p.19 Because she was tired from swimming to shore and escaping the sharks.
