Newsletter 13

Thursday 14th May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to start by saying well done to our year 6 children for their efforts this week in their statutory tests. We have a strong reputation for academic success and it is evident that our children make super progress at school. As parents will be aware, we invest significantly in ensuring that the children are ‘secondary-ready’ through our use of breakfast tuition and learning clubs. This ensures that the daily curriculum remains broad, balanced and truly enjoyable in what should be a wonderful final year in primary school. As a recent newsletter shared, the positive comments about how well Tudor children do at secondary schools should fill us all with pride

The year 6 Tudorites are now wearing their new 2026 leavers hoodies- they are able to wear these for the complete term and don’t they look great! They continue to be a fantastic group of children who really set the right standards around the school.

Even though some tests are taking place, a fun atmosphere continues to fill the school. Lots of children have been visiting my room to show me their work- it really is a great privilege to be their headteacher!

A key part of any school is the staff team and the level of interest in joining #TeamTudor is truly amazing. In response to our recent class teacher job advert we had 29 separate applications and it was evident that it was our reputation that inspired a number of the applicants to apply. We had even been recommended to some of the applicants by teaching advisors!

In respect of school evaluation, pupil progress meetings are also taking place at the moment. At Tudor, the senior leadership team work with each year group to evaluate the progress that the children are making and we consider any changes or adjustments that are needed.  What always impresses me is the level of knowledge the teachers have about the children in their class. Not only are they able to talk academically at length about ANY child, they also know so much about their interests and personalities. The ability to develop such relationships and recognise how each child is different is the most important skill a teacher can have.

Talking of different skills, well done to Callum in year 5.

His artistic flair was highly commended in the recent Dacorum competition- well done!

Who is in charge? Making the right decisions…

Earlier in the year, you may recall some advice from the teaching team in regard to the need to build independence in children- especially in the early years of schooling. Do consider the messages you are giving your children if they are being brought into school in buggies and/ or carried. Different stages of growing up obviously present changing expectations but the ability to be independent is a vital skill. Children do need to be told things that they may not agree with too. Every now and then, a child may say that they don’t want to come to school. There are some decisions that adults have a duty to make and our experience enables us to make more appropriate decisions. Telling your child something that they do not want to hear might be the harder decision but it is likely to be the right one in the long term FOR your child.  EVERY day matters at #TeamTudor.

Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:

Recently, Heidi Buckell, a former pupil of Tudor Primary School who was born with cerebral palsy, visited to speak with all children in Years 3–6. In 2021, she founded Be Aware Be Clear with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of disability.

During her visit, Heidi helped the children explore what disability means, including the differences between visible and invisible disabilities. She also discussed the potential impact of living with a disability and, most importantly, how we can all support and include others. The pupils engaged thoughtfully throughout, asking insightful questions and reflecting on what they had learned. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with one child commenting, “She was really incredible—I am definitely going to think more about how I can help others who may have a disability.” Her visit reinforced an important message we share regularly at school: everyone has their own strengths as well as challenges, and this is what makes each of us unique. We must treat one another with respect, understanding, and kindness. We look forward to welcoming Heidi back again in the future!

The Friends of Tudor continue to support the school in so many ways- they make a real DIFFERENCE to every child in our school. For some ‘Friday Fun’ why not pop along to the ‘FOT Family Quiz Night’ on Friday 15th May. Doors open at 7pm and it is sure to be a great evening.

Planning is also underway for the ‘FOT Summer Picnic’ which will take place on Saturday 4th July. To help support this event, there is a non-uniform day THIS Friday- bring a bottle for the tombola (see poster below) for your donation.

Hangout in the Holidays We continue to take bookings for the summer provision from Wednesday 22nd July to Friday 7th August. We believe our club is excellent value and we offer further discounts to those who make block bookings for each week. Booking is now open on Arbor.

It’s walk to school week next week- 18th-22nd May

Lots of fun activities (and rewards!) for those children who are able to enjoy the benefits of walking to school. Let’s try and get as many of our pupils enjoying the healthy (and environment-friendly) decision of not simply relying on cars! https://www.tudor.herts.sch.uk/news/?pid=3&nid=1&storyid=2205

The next time you receive a newsletter it will be the final half term of the year. So much continues to happen around school and we still have even more to fit in. We plan for surprise science shows, lots of trips out of school, skiing lessons, sporting events and more. We are incredibly proud of the wide range of activities that Tudorites are able to access and enjoy. Whilst welcoming new families (and teachers!) to our Tudor community, let’s make it truly memorable for our year 6 leavers…
