Dear Parents and Carers,
To think that we’re already nearing the end of September shows how busy we’ve all been at school. The classrooms are settled and the children are having lots of fun at lunchtimes too. Talking of outside fun, we invest significantly in staffing as well as the activities and games for when the children are playing and this ensures that lots of fun will be had. My work in support of other schools evidences how such ‘less-directed’ time can prove problematic but the Tudorites just excel with such opportunities. From skipping activities to the Tudor Towers and a range of sports, the children are kept busy! An extra- special well done to the three children in the photo on the right- the dance that they had created at break entertained all those who were invited to watch!
Lots of children shared that that they enjoyed hearing the special Tudor shout-out on the radio last week. Different schools have been chosen to be on the school selector on Hertfordshire 92.6 and it was enjoyable to be able to share a poem about how we are the BEST around…😊
The standards in class are really impressive and the children in nursery and reception have made a tremendous start. There has been a steady stream of children coming to my room to share their first examples of Tudor work.
Our staff structure enables clear lines of communication…
As one of the largest primary schools in Hertfordshire, Tudor needs to benefit from a very clear staff structure that enables all voices to be heard. Whilst all of this information and guidance is available on our website (and that should ALWAYS be your first port of call!), it is useful to remember the different ways that you can communicate with school if you need some additional help. Your child’s teacher will usually be the person that can support the most as they are likely to have the most knowledge about the situation. After the classteacher, Tudor benefits from leadership capacity from phase leaders. They are: EYFS- Mrs Price, Y1/2- Miss Scott, Y3/4- Mr Munro, Y5/6- Mr Crowder.
If you still need help, the senior leaders at Tudor including myself are easy to find and keen to help in any way. Do be aware that we may (initially) be the people with the least understanding. In the first instance, do try to make sure you speak to those who work ‘with’ your children each day. And don’t forget to use the red book for sharing basic information with your child’s teacher- these are checked every day and are a very efficient way to inform the staff of news. Saying this, I retain my pledge of seeing EVERY child, EVERY day and I am proud of how closely senior leaders truly know the children at Tudor. The relationships we all have with the children is VITAL!
As I shared at the end of last year, Mrs Susannah Arje retired from her position as Chair of Governors. We can now share that Tudor benefits from having two co-chairs in this vital role. They are Mrs Lucy Lee and Mr Dan Jones.

This term’s newsletter provides a wealth of information about courses, services and support available for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as their families.

Partnership with Parents! Our Autumn Term consultation evenings will be taking place on Tuesday 20th October and Thursday 22nd October for all classes from Nursery right through to Year 6. Whilst school is a vital part of any childhood, the influence and input of parents is what truly counts so do make sure your child is represented. Appointments are available on both days from 3.30pm to 7.00pm, and bookings can be accessed via your Arbor app or desktop site.
Smile for the camera- and don’t forget our uniform expectations
On Monday 5th October, the children will be able to have their photo taken. This is a good opportunity to ensure that their school uniforms are correct and appropriate. If longer hair needs to be ‘managed’ then a simple hair band or small bow is fine. Please also check that your children’s uniforms (and coats!) have clear labelling. Simply put, if your child’s clothing has a name on it, it is FAR MORE likely to find its way back to the correct owner!
Secondary school transfer- having the right information- It has been noticeable how the number of ‘myths’ regarding secondary transfer continue to be shared. On occasion, this has led to some difficulty regarding allocations following ‘choices’ made for secondary schools. Whilst schools are not able to influence/ encourage decisions, we can provide opportunities for additional discussion if parents require it. This may be to hear concerns and/ or to signpost parents to information about ‘next steps’. We are here to help!
Ensuring your children receives the right funding- ‘Universal free school meals’ remain in place for all children in reception, year 1 and year 2. Therefore, those families who are eligible for ‘benefit related free school meals’ in year 3 (or above) need to register via the www.hertfordshire.gov.uk website. If you are unsure regarding eligibility, come and see the office team. Even if you think you may not be eligible, DO apply because you (and the school) may be missing out on funding. THIS IS ALSO THE CASE FOR PARENTS IN RECEPTION, Y1 AND Y2. Year 3 parents who are not eligible will need to pay for meals in advance via the Arbor app.
Tudor remains committed to having EXCELLENT levels of attendance.
Learning takes place FROM 8.45am and we look forward to every child being able to benefit from a FULL experience of school.
Simply put, children who attend well achieve well.
We are proud of how our children flourish- academically and socially and this is the result of the excellent partnership the teaching team have with the Tudor community. The range of activities and opportunities (including ukulele lessons in year 5!) the children benefit from is tremendous.
