WELCOME TO YEAR 2

Over the next year we will be making the most of our time at school, and you can see some of our learning highlights on our blog. 

There are two Year 2 classes at Tudor:

2Q - is taught by Miss Scott and Mrs Selva.

2R - is taught by Miss Tripp and Mrs Southcott.

Each week, Mrs Smith will teach 2Q for one day and 2R for one morning.

 

PE DAYS

This term our P.E. days are on Tuesday and Wednesday.

HOMEWORK

In Year 2 we expect children to read every night and to have their reading records signed by an adult. Each child will initially be given a Year 1 decodable reading book and will then be given a reading book based on their needs.  Books will be changed regularly but not daily as children may need to read the whole book more than once to develop their understanding as well as their fluency.  The children will visit the school library regularly and so can also share a library book with an adult at home. 

Homework will be given out each Friday and all tasks will be due in the following Wednesday.

 

AUTUMN TERM THEME – TOY STORIES

This term within our ‘Toy Stories’ theme we will be exploring everything to do with toys.

  

We will be looking at questions such as:

What toys did people play with in the past?  How are these similar to/different from our toys today?

What materials are different toys made out of?  What properties do these materials have?

Where did Paddington come from?  How can we use maps to help us find countries and landmarks?

We will also be reading lots of stories about toys and producing our own writing using these as our inspiration.
