Take a look at what we got up to in the first half of the Autumn Term!
What a great start the children have had to the year! We are so proud of how quickly they have settled in. It is lovely to see how they have developed strong foundations already and have made new friends and have got fully immersed their first year of school!
Creation Station
Our creative area is always stocked with a variety of tools and materials for the children to explore and express their creativity. Each half term, we focus on developing a specific skill, and we thoughtfully select tools for our palette that encourage children to engage with that skill. This half term, our focus has been on printing. We’ve provided a wide range of tools, including sponges, corks, cotton buds, forks, spoons, animals, and Numicon. The children have then independently chosen their own materials to create their masterpieces. During Owl Babies week, some of the children used the printing tools to create their own owl-themed artwork. Take a look at their wonderful creations!
All About Us
In our afternoon sessions, we’ve been learning all about ourselves. We discovered that we are all unique and special in our own way. To explore this, we talked about our families and our homes, and we looked closely at our eyes, hair, and hands—comparing the similarities and differences. We noticed that we have different eye colours, and some of us wear glasses to help us see better.
We also observed each other’s hair and used descriptive words like curly, straight, soft, and spiky to talk about its texture and style. During our Play and Learn sessions, we explored drawing our eyes using pastels and crayons, went on a sight walk, created our own crazy hair pictures and characters, and even experimented with wearing different wigs!
Small World and Construction
This year we have made a few changes to our construction area and added some people and some animals. The children were so excited and over the course of the week they created their own city complete with all the essentials like a school, mcdonalds, tescos, a farm, a dinosaur world and even a football pitch. We gave the children some paper and some blue tac and they were off writing their own labels and creating their own signs.
