This week we have been focusing on CATERPILLARS!

This week in Reception, we are going to be learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar!

In Literacy, we read 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. This story is amazing because it gives us lots of different areas to explore, we practiced the following; days of the week, healthy eating, life cycles and retelling a story. We are going to be creating a 'storypillar' and writing down the days of the week alongside drawing and deciding what our caterpillar eats each day! We came up with a healthy diet for our caterpillar and sorted food into different groups too!

We also learnt the life cycle of a caterpillar and made sure that we understood the steps and used some key vocabulary such as 'chrysalis' in our written work.

In Phonics, we used our new scheme 'Essential letters and sounds' to learn our new sound of the week: ar, ur, oo and or.

You could practice segmenting and blending these words with your children: (Please refer to video of Miss Foy on Tapestry) They should know this method well as we use it every day in class.

Car, start, lard, far, dart

Pur, fur, surf, hurt, turn

Look, book, shook, took, cook

Cork, fork, horn, storm

In Maths, we will be learnt how to share. We shared some food into 2 equal groups for a pair of caterpillars. We also explored different ways to share equally using concrete recourses and play based opportunities through the week.
