Having been learning about the seaside all term, this week Year 2 went on a trip to the actual seaside.
We set off early in the morning and drove excitedly down to Southend-on-Sea in our coach. When we got there, we enjoyed exploring 'Sealife Adventure' where we saw fish, lobsters, anemones, turtles and other amazing sea creatures along with macaques, butterflies, meerkats, a rather energetic squirrel, some truly gigantic tortoises and even dinosaurs! We particularly enjoyed watching the penguins being fed and found out lots of fascinating facts. We also walked through a glass tunnel with fish swimming above our heads including an actual shark! After this, we had a picnic lunch on the edge of the beach before walking along the promenade. This was very familiar as we'd learned all about the different features in our Geography lessons. We saw the funfair and the world-famous pier along with lots of cheeky seagulls. Finally, we went onto the beach and built sandcastles in our groups before heading back home on the coach.
