Welcome to our Reception Blog
A glance of September 2025
Want to know what the first two weeks of Reception looks like at Tudor? Have a look at what Red and Yellow class achieved at the start of their Tudor journey.
We start our phonics lessons and we learn the sounds s, a, t and p.
Each day we complete an activity sheet all on our own. On Fridays we get our very own reading books which we take home for the week.
By Week 3 we introduce group work in Literacy and Maths groups. Each group is named after a sea creature; dolphins, seahorses, sharks, stingrays and starfish. For the first few weeks we introduce the children to their group animal and use the time to show them areas within our classroom. We model and show the children what they can do in each area and how to follow our golden rules and be responsible when tidying up the space.
If you want to see more of our areas and how they are updated throughout the year, take a look at our instagram page

As the term goes on we then begin our Literacy and Maths learning where the children will have two adult led sessions a week and 3 independant learning activities.
Our literacy this half term has been based around familiar stories and has had a focus on vocabulalry skills and applying our initial phonics knowledge.
Our Maths session this half term have focussed on developing the skill of subitsing, learning tricks and techniques to help us be confident counters and begininng to look into the composition of numbers 2, 3 and 4.
Our blog will be updated each half term and give you the low down of all the things we have been up to! Once we begin completing group work activities this will be uploaded on to your child's tapestry journal.
