Newsletter 2

Thursday 25th September 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

WHAT a TREMENDOUS start to the term. The school is very settled and there is a wonderful atmosphere throughout.

Lots of children have visited my room to share their work and the classroom displays are filling up with super examples of work too- the children just love to see their best work being shared for others to see.

This positivity is also mirrored during breaktimes and the children are having fun when outside. As part of my work across schools in Dacorum I support with behaviour and it is often those less structured times that create additional challenge. It is evident that Tudor does well in this area of provision and there is simply SO MUCH for the children to do. As well as being able to work creatively inside, there are a range of activities (and skills to learn) during those extended periods outside. It really is a fun part of the day and we continue to invest in high levels of staff capacity to support and assist the children.

Tudor Primary and our 3 Steps: As we are still in the first month, this is a useful opportunity to remind you how the children of Tudor Primary benefit from their use of the 3 STEPS. It really is IMPACTFUL!

As you will understand, children do occasionally experience moments of challenge (including disagreements!) when they interact with each other. If something occurs, the children are taught to calmly tell another child that they are unhappy with what has just happened. This is Step 1. If the same situation occurs/ repeats, the child is able to use the script of Step 2- if you do that again I WILL tell an adult.’ Step 3 is when (or if!) the issue continues and the child needs to tell an adult! I have to say that this Tudor-technique is really effective as it enables the children to share their concern whilst developing and building independence- all hugely important as they grow. Do ask your children about it- it really is a valuable, effective and efficient way to ensure their voices are heard. Please be assured that if a child feels a situation requires immediate intervention from an adult, they can approach us straight away😊. High levels of staff capacity throughout the day remains a real strength of Tudor. In relation to that, I am sure it is equally frustrating for parents on those occasions when a child tells them something at home that they have ‘forgotten’ to tell an adult in school. We WILL support if we are told about something! We are ALL #TeamTudor.

Parent Partnership! We have held some parent partnership meetings already this term and feedback received has been very positive. Our first meeting was related to the year ahead for children and families in year 6 and we also held a further curriculum meeting for our new reception parents. The materials shared at these meetings will remain available for those parents who were unable to attend. Do use the class pages/ blogs on the website to access what you need. Whilst a lot goes on in the ‘middle’, the learning curve for all in that first (and last!) year of primary education is rather steep. Parents in year 5 may also want to have an early look at what is in store as a move to secondary school approaches. As shared in the meetings, Tudor pledges to support you throughout your time with us… and beyond!

Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:

On Tuesday 30th September, Anne Weedon (Emotional Well-being Practitioner) and I, will be hosting a 'Tudor Coffee Morning'. The focus of this half term's coffee morning will be 'Building your child's confidence and resilience'. If you would like to attend, please meet in the office area at 9am. For information about services available in Hertfordshire that support children with additional needs, look at the 'Support on a Page' documents which can be found on Hertfordshire's Local Offer website: https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/microsites/local-offer/services-for-children-and-young-people/services-for-children-and-young-people.aspx

School photos-SMILE FOR THE CAMERA-Individual and sibling photos will take place on Monday 6th October. Please ensure your children are looking smart as ever in their Tudor uniforms on that day. In relation to uniforms, do make sure you put names on the range of different items. This will ensure the clothing can be easily reunited with your children!

Parent Consultations-let’s make sure EVERY child is represented by their families- booking OPEN!

The first consultation evenings of the school year will be taking place on Tuesday 21st October and Thursday 23rd October. Whilst school is a vital part of any childhood, the influence and input of parents is what truly counts- book appointments via your Arbor app. Additional guidance found at: Booking Guardian Consultations (Parent's Evenings) on the Parent Portal or Parent App – Arbor Help Centre

An important announcement for school lunches- especially for families in year 3!

Universal free school meals remain in place for all children in reception, year 1 and year 2. Therefore, those families who are eligible for benefit related free school meals in year 3 (or above) need to register via the www.hertfordshire.gov.uk website. If you are unsure regarding eligibility, please come and see the office team. Even if you think you may not be eligible, DO apply because you (and the school) may be missing out on funding. Year 3 parents who are not eligible will obviously need to pay for school meals in advance and via the Arbor app.

The Hangout… including ‘Halloween at the Hangout’

Our Tudor extended provision is super. Remember that we offer care from 7.30am until 6pm EVERY school day!  Our EXTENDED breakfast club is now open FROM 7.30am and provides a wonderful (and fun!) start to the day. The range of activities that the team put in place is excellent. Our ‘Hangout’ club is popular too- make sure you book early if your child wants to join the ‘After-school frights and delight Halloween Spook-tacular’ on October 22nd. Simply select that day on your Arbor app.

Please REGULARLY use our website- it should be one of your ‘favourites’!

To enable you to get the most out of Tudor, our school website is a key resource that you need to use. It contains guidance on everything that you need to know- from class assembly dates/ times and key policies to evidencing the impact that we have with your children- it’s all on there.

Class assembly dates for the first half term are:

2nd October - 5X

9th October - 6Y

16th October - 3S

23rd October - 5W

Fireworks- SAVE THE DATE- One of the most amazing events of the school year is the FOT fantastic fireworks spectacular. This will be taking place on Friday 7th November. Do NOT miss out!

As well as finding out what is going on in YOUR school, I hope you enjoy reading our school newsletters. There is a lot for us all to be proud of and we remain determined to make EVERY day matter for the best children around. In respect of some (more!) evidence that shares how well everyone at #TeamTudor is doing, check out this data.

This shares the percentage of our children who get the HIGHEST results in EVERY core subject area. Yes… we CONTINUE to get nearly DOUBLE the level of all the other key comparative data sets. Interest in school places is also BIGGER than ever. Let’s ALL aim HIGH and set the STANDARD!
