Newsletter 3

Thursday 9th October 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Pupil progress meetings have been taking place in school this week. Such evaluation and moderation activities are an important part of how we plan to meet the needs of the children at Tudor. In many ways, these meetings are able to evidence just how well the teaching team are doing.

One of the first expectations I put in place on the staff when I arrived Tudor was to know and understand the needs of all the children in their class and they certainly do not disappoint. From recognising individual (and group) learning behaviours, to building supportive relationships, it is the partnership that the team have with your children that helps makes each day count. Previous newsletters have shared just how settled school is but there is a true energy that helps drive standards forward… and yes- we want our standards to be the best.

Being truly ASPIRATIONAL is such a vital factor in being successful at school and in the future- and there is a lot of evidence that shows how well children respond when school and family want the BEST for their children. This will often mean being committed to those extra efforts- the easy route is always not the right choice and we are thankful that the vast majority of parents recognise how we all need to work together…and this is often children working outside their comfort zone or doing something that they would rather not do! Then again, it should be up to adults to guide and lead them to make the decisions that count!

Building that Independence…

Related to the above, I trust parents will understand the importance of the next point. Over recent years there has been a noticeable change in expectations placed on children and this has been evident in a number of ways. As an example, have you noticed how more children are now being brought into school/ transported around in buggies (or even carried) or pulled along by parents on scooters? Furthermore, more children are less able to complete what should be ‘expected’ daily life-skills such as tying shoe laces/ putting coats on. It is the duty of the teaching team to ensure we give our best for children IN school but it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that children are ready for schooling- from toileting to age-appropriate abilities for daily tasks. Be assured that we will support in any way we can but please take some time to consider if your wanting to ‘show support, love and affection’ to your child is actually ‘limiting’ their growth…

Talking of PROGRESS! We will be soon sharing information about the range of interventions to ensure that our children can make accelerated progress. Whether these are daily breakfast tutoring opportunities delivered by the teaching team or the ‘Year 2 Reading Drive’, all these ingredients add to the awesome mix! Tudor will continue to invest in such high-quality additional learning experiences so do take advantage. Schools should never limit the creativity of a curriculum in an attempt to raise academic outcomes. We must get the balance right! If your child is able to take advantage of bespoke interventions, PLEASE do support them by ensuring that they are able to attend the extra input regularly- Tudor really does set the standard for such high-quality (and teacher-led) tutoring and learning support at NO extra cost! Look out for letters about what is on offer.

Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:

We are about to enter the first support plan 'window' of this academic year. If your child has an 'individual support plan', you will be invited into school to meet with your child's class teacher, enabling you to review previous individual targets and discuss and plan new ones. It is vital teachers, parents and children work together to review progress and agree upon next steps. Therefore, please do attend this meeting or request an alternative date and time if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment. This week 6Y participated in a 'Resilience Workshop', facilitated by Anne Weedon from the Mental Health Support Team. Children learnt about what resilience is, why it is important and discussed and practised strategies they could use to help them become more resilient. Feedback from the children was excellent, one child said, 'The best thing about my day today was learning about how to be more resilient. The next time I feel like I can't do something or I get it wrong I am going to tell myself that I learn by making mistakes’. All children in Years 3-6 will have the opportunity to participate in this workshop during the autumn term. 'Family Lives' are offering evidence-based online courses to parents, free of charge. Currently, there are courses available for parents of children with Autism and/or ADHD as well as courses for parents of children with no special needs. Congratulations to Miss Cohen who recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Good luck to year 6 (and the staff team!) who are off to Torquay in Devon next week for their residential adventure holiday. They will have the most wonderful time and will make life-long memories. The weather looks super too!
