Wednesday 7th January
Welcome back to school for what will be a TREMENDOUS 2026! It was super to see the children returning to their classes at the start of term and there is clearly a lot of excitement about the new themes of learning that are sure to inspire.

The classroom environments are looking great and the children have settled well. The themes for the Spring 2026 term are:
Reception- Once Upon a Fairytale
Year 1 and Year 2- From Field to Fork
Year 3 and Year 4- Crime-Busters
Year 5 and Year 6- Extreme Environments

To find out more about what your children will be doing, don’t forget to use the class pages and class blogs on the website. These will be updated as the term progresses.
We ALL continue to LEARN- Prior to the return of the children, the teaching team took part in training on identifying our strengths and areas for future focus as well as some further development work on supporting mental health in the school community. We are very proud of our approaches but is important to share how we can support each other in this area and schools are certainly key in working with families. Children can feel anxious on occasions and in response to situations (which is totally normal!) and it is the relationships we enjoy that are a key tool in helping manage situations of challenge.
Following our recent successful support work with a number of Dacorum schools, we have now been asked by county leaders to work alongside a further Hertfordshire primary school. Being asked to engage in such work should make us all very proud as this truly evidences the excellent reputation that the Tudor teaching team has.
Improvements at Tudor are not just related to the educational provision- the 6-month heating project for the 'main building’ has now been completed. Mr Wendleken deserves real praise as we have continued to be able to use such spaces despite the fact that the complete water and heating system has been changed. It really is warm and toasty in school now- those 50-year-old radiators really did need replacing! Talking of upgrades, the main path into school is also being widened (and surfaced!) to improve the situation at what has been a rather frustrating ‘pinch point’. The management of the site is a key task for the school leadership and we believe the school is in strong shape. It really is ‘unrecognisable’ from 10 years ago. Next on our upgrade list will be improving the toilets and wash areas in early years- the cycle of improvement will continue!
Using the right channels of communication- we are ALL #TeamTudor
Before the holidays, the newsletter shared a reminder about using correct (and appropriate) means of communication when seeking understanding about school news and information. If we are able to ‘request a resolution’ for 2026, can we ask that you remember to engage with the school and use the website/ newsletters when finding things out. Classteachers as well as members of the senior team remain readily available and keen to work in partnership with you. Issues arising from misinformation can certainly frustrate us all.

Tudor in the community- In December, the school choir entertained the residents of Mountbatten Lodge. They performed (and behaved!) wonderfully well and they were a credit to their school.
Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:
Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL) recently published their 'End of 2025 Parent/Carers Newsletter', to access this newsletter use the following link: https://dacorumdspl.org.uk/online-resources-for-parents-and-carers/. The newsletter provides information about courses and support available to parents/carers of children in Hertfordshire. Dacorum Family Services are offering a free 'Helping your child with their anger' parent workshop on Wednesday 21st January, 10-11.30 am.

The aims of this session are to provide you with practical ways to support your child during moments of frustration and effective strategies for managing anger calmly. The workshop can be attended in person at Hobbs Hill Wood School or online via Teams. For more details and to book a place, please email: jnethercoat@hobbshillwood.herts.sch.uk, including contact details and name of your child's school.

Some (planned) changes to our music provision- During the holiday, Tudor was informed about the closure of Soundbox Music Academy. We have an excellent partnership with our music tutors so it is pleasing to share that we plan for the lessons to continue. Parents will be informed about the changes/ new start dates as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your understanding (and patience!). We remain determined for such opportunities to be of a fantastic quality.

A message from the office team- PE joggers- PE joggers will no longer be available to purchase from the school office. School uniform suppliers have raised the prices of these items, and we do not feel we should ask parents to pay the increased prices that companies are asking for something that is only worn for such a short time before it is grown out of. In order to keep our uniform offering the best value for parents, joggers worn for PE can be purchased from any high street shop/supermarket/online. Please ensure that these are royal or navy blue only.
Uniform Reminders- Please support the school by ensuring your child has the correct uniform. There have been NO changes to our guidance. Shoes must be completely black (no coloured logos/ soles/ laces) and only studs are permitted in ears (no hoops).

A stamp of SUCCESS! Well done Abby who was delighted to be informed that she had won the ‘Old Town Hall Stamp Design Competition’ during the holidays. She won some super prizes including tickets to a family show.
On the first day of this term, our assembly introduced our January ‘Value of the Month’. The focus is on ‘Equity and Equality’ and I was so impressed with the children’s ideas. As parents you should feel incredibly proud about how they talked about responding to different situations as well as how people often need something extra (or different!) to some one else. Whilst we know we should all be treated respectfully and with equality, we do need to adjust and support each other in different ways if everyone is enabled to succeed. The ideas that the children shared were incredibly heartwarming and certainly evidenced our ‘Tudor Principles’ of Kindness, Respect and Responsibility.
Let’s give our awesome Tudorites a TREMENDOUS 2026!
