Newsletter 1
Thursday 11th September 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the first edition of our Tudor newsletter for the academic year 2025/2026! We aim to share a newsletter every couple of weeks and reading it will ensure that you won’t miss out on all the key information or fun things that happen as part of daily life at Tudor. An extra special greeting must go to all those children and families (and staff!) who are part of #TeamTudor for the first time. We should feel very proud of our school and we are determined for EVERY child to have the most wonderful and rewarding experience at Tudor. It’s always fun to see the new children in early years arrive on their first day with their proud parents- they can just sense all of the amazing things that are in store!
The children have settled well in their new classes and this evidences the effective transition arrangements that we put in place for the children as they progress through (and beyond) Tudor. I have enjoyed hearing about what the children got up to in the summer and, whilst the children enjoy time off, there is a real sense of belonging and support that permeates our community. Be assured that one of my ongoing pledges is that I will see EVERY child, EVERY day and if there is anything your children need to share with the Tudor team, there is true capacity to ensure that their voice is heard.
Tudor Primary remained super busy in the summer. As well as three weeks of Tudor-led summer camps, the heating and plumbing upgrades to the main school building have continued. New carpets (and new chairs) are in place and we are TRULY ready for a wonderful year. We continue to evidence that ALL children can flourish. A key strength is our Tudor curriculum and our current themes are:
EYFS- New Beginnings
Year 1 and Year 2- Homes Under the Hammer
Year 3 and Year 4- Buried Treasure
Year 5 and Year 6- Raiders and Traders
IMPORTANT- strong attendance (and punctuality) is key for ALL!
Super attendance (and correct punctuality/ time keeping!) is achieved by the overwhelming majority of our school community. Expectations in our school remain ‘strong’: all children deserve a full, consistent experience of education. Remember that school STARTS at 8.45am and registers close at 8.55am. Children arriving late (without a valid reason) are at risk of receiving an unauthorised absence. I am sure we would all agree that good punctuality and good attendance at school really helps set the right standards (and values) for a successful future. WELL DONE to our new nursery and reception parents who are already recognising the importance of getting their children to school on time.
A settled, well-organised start to the day really supports the well-being of the children. Children should ENTER the class at 8.45am where staff will be on the doors from this time to welcome children into their classrooms. Whenever children are dropped off late at the main reception, this needlessly stretches our capacity for the office team. We should NOT have to be ‘ferrying’ latecomers to their classrooms. Do consider how it feels for your child if they are walking in alone to their classroom when their peers are already settled. Simply put, any arrival after 8.45am is LATE…
Inclusion at Tudor Primary- a message from Miss Reading- our Leader for Inclusion:
We are committed to supporting all our pupils, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, to reach their full potential. Our school 'Information Report', explains how we provide for pupils with special educational needs at Tudor. You can read the 'Information Report' on our school website here: https://www.tudor.herts.sch.uk/page/?title=Special+Education+Needs+and+Disabilities&pid=114 If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me (via email, on the gate or telephone). Hertfordshire SEND Local offer have created 'Support on a Page'; this is to help signpost parents/carers to different service providers (covering a range of needs) in Hertfordshire. For more information, visit the Hertfordshire SEND Local Offer website: https://dacorumdspl.org.uk/hertfordshire-send-local-offer/ Finally, if you would like to join Anne Weedon (Educational Mental Health Practitioner) and I at our first 'Tudor Coffee Morning' of this academic year, please put Tuesday 30th September in your diary. This coffee morning will focus on building your child's confidence and resilience.
An important announcement for school lunches- especially for families in year 3!
Universal free school meals remain in place for all children in reception, year 1 and year 2. Therefore, those families who are eligible for benefit related free school meals in year 3 (or above) need to register via the www.hertfordshire.gov.uk website. If you are unsure regarding eligibility, please come and see the office team. Even if you think you may not be eligible, DO apply because you (and the school) may be missing out on funding. Year 3 parents who are not eligible will obviously need to pay for school meals in advance and via the Arbor app.
Getting the MOST from year 6! In support of Year 6 families, we will be offering a morning coffee meeting in the hall to share some of the key messages and updates for the year ahead on Monday 22nd September at 9am in the school hall. Information about secondary transfer (including the dispelling of a number of myths that can confuse parents!), PGL, extra interventions and support on offer and more.
We hope to see all families represented in the meeting.
There will obviously be opportunities for questions and senior staff will be on hand to answer any queries you have! WE are TRULY here to help…
After School Clubs- please respond to forms – DEADLINE FRIDAY 12TH SEPT
Children have received a letter (also sent via email) for our new after school clubs. DO NOT send any money in with the forms- we will request payment once a space has been allocated. We hope as many children as possible can benefit from extra-curricular activity and most clubs will start on the week beginning 22nd September. Remember that Tudor offers provision from 7.30am until 6pm EVERY school day! Has your child tried our EXTENDED breakfast club yet? It’s GREAT!
Please REGULARLY use our website- it should certainly be one of your ‘favourites’!
To enable you to get the most out of Tudor, our school website is a key resource that you need to use. It gets amazing feedback and it is often used as an exemplar for other schools. You will notice that the year groups have updated their sections with specific key information about what is in store for your children. The ‘MEET THE TEACHER’ presentations are available to you and these will support a smooth start to the year. The website also contains guidance on everything that you need to know- from class assembly dates/ times and key policies to evidencing the impact that we have with your children- it’s all on there.
Class assembly dates for the first half term are:
25th September - 6Z
2nd October - 5X
9th October - 6Y
16th October - 3S
23rd October - 5S
The Friends of Tudor - The first meeting of our valued parent group will be taking place on Wednesday 17th September at 7pm. This meeting takes place at school and FoT would LOVE to see more parents willing to join them in supporting the school with fundraising. The children of Tudor do get a great deal and the work of FoT is a vital part of this- your help really makes a DIFFERENCE!
I thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. We are proud of our place in this community and we recognise the importance of our partnership. Please do work with us by making sure your child is READY for school (and here by 8.45am) EVERY DAY. If there is anything you need help with, do not hesitate to ask- we are all #TeamTudor!
