DAY AND NIGHT

Have you ever wondered why or how day and night appear? Or why shadows are cast? Well the next few paragraphs can tell you that . In this text you will understand why there is a day and night and how it happens.

Shadows being cast

Shadows are cast when the light from the sun hits an opaque object[ like a tree ], the light is unable to  travel through it. This leaves an area where the light is unable to hit and a shadow is formed. Light sources can be torches, light bulbs, televisions and even the sun.

The earth,day and night

The earth moves 2 different ways- it rotates and it revolves. It takes approximately 365 days for the earth to orbit the sun and it takes 24hours for the axis to complete one rotation. On the earth, the axis  extends from North to South and it is at a tilt with the earth at 23.5 degrees.

When one side of the Earth is facing the sun, it is experiencing daytime , the other side is facing away from the sun and is experiencing night time. The sun rises from the East and sets in the West. The sun does not rotate or revolve,[ it just looks that way because the earth is actually rotating ] .
