Making 3D shapes in 2A

Today 2A have been making 3D shapes out of straws. We had to be careful to make sure the edges were the same length (where needed.) One of us even tried to make a cone without creating any vertices! (Very tricky!) and then realised it could be made into a party hat! So he turned it into one! Meanwhile, we all discussed and compared how many vertices, edges and faces our shapes had. We discussed which edges needed to be longer than others and recapped what we knew about irregular shapes. We even learnt more about the names triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal and octagonal prisms.
